On Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 3:00 PM, the DISCUSSION SERIES will host an informal presentation about the proposed plans and ideas…or the lack of them…that the Puerto Plata region has for the projected increase in tourism generated by the Carnaval Cruise company’s new port in Maimon. To head up the panel and explain the new developments and insights that the local and national governments are planning on implementing will be Maximo Yglesias, the Chairman of the “Clúster de Puerto Plata”. The Cluster (click here for their web site), of which the Meeting Place is an official member, is a non-governmental organization that is comprised of interested parties in the tourism industry, like hotels and tour operators, that advocates for advances and improvements in this important sector of the Puerto Plata economy. As the Cluster represents all the major players in the tourism industry, it is well positioned in its dealings with all levels of the government as well as the private sector .
